Drop Savers Poster Contest Winners Announced

The City of Winter Garden recently took part in the annual Drop Savers Poster Contest sponsored by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). The City received 82 posters from local schools:

Congratulations to the winners in the following divisions:

  • Division 1:  (Kindergarten and 1st Grade) StarChild Academy student
  • Division 2:  (2nd and 3rd Grade) StarChild Academy student (FSAWWA 2nd Place Winner)
  • Division 3:  (4th and 5th Grade) StarChild Academy student
  • Division 4:  (Middle School) Foundation Academy student (FSAWWA 1st Place Winner)
  • Division 5:  (High School) West Orange High School student (FSAWW 1st Place Winner)

A panel of judges selected one winner of each age category based on message, creativity, and originality. The five winning posters moved on to the state level competition, in which three entries won: Middle and High School entries each won first place, and the 2nd & 3rd Grade entry won 2nd Place.

The contest was open to students in grades K-12.  Students were encouraged to create a poster depicting a water conservation idea in slogan form, drawing form, or both. The contest teaches younger students, and reminds older students, about the importance of water conservation.  The students were recognized at the City Commission Meeting on April 13. Special thanks to the schools, students, and teachers for their participation!
