Program Information
All Active 50+ programs are held at the Jessie Brock Community Center, 310 North Dillard Street, unless otherwise noted. Registration for programs starting on or after September 1 will be available to city residents on Wednesday August 16, and nonresidents on Wednesday August 30.

AARP Smart Driver Course
Insurance reduction and driver refresher course! Up to a 10% discount after completion of course depending on your insurance provider. Advanced registration required, as classes could be cancelled due to low enrollment.

AARP Smart Driver TEK Workshop
Learn how new high-tech features in today’s cars can help make driving safer and easier. You will learn how the benefits of these technologies may enhance your driving safety and extend your safe driving years. You will receive a technology checklist and learn to identify the safety technologies that best suit your needs. Space is limited, so register now for this course by calling 1-877-805-0458.

Adventures in Craftdom
Let your creativity run wild as you create a unique craft item each month. Supplies furnished. You will walk out with a finished product. Registration required as availability is limited.
Tuesday, September 12 – Mermaid Glass Bracelet – Use the new Mermaid Glass beads to string a bracelet that will glow in the sun. Add some sea worthy charms for fun.
Tuesday, October 10 – Yarn Pumpkin – Learn how to finger knit a soft pumpkin that you will stuff and add a wood stem and leaves. A perfect fall decoration for your home.
Tuesday, November 14 – Beaded Ornament Hangers (set of 6) – You will use large and small sparkly beads on wire that will be twisted into beautiful hangers for your cherished ornaments. You will make a set of 6 hangers that will be 2-3 inches long.
Tuesday, December 12 – Holiday Sparkle Necklace – Using Crystal drops in two sizes, you will create an 18” necklace that will make all your outfits sparkle.
Tuesday, January 9 – Alcohol Ink Art - You will create a piece of art using vivid alcohol inks with special paper. You will end up with the art attached to a canvas for your home.
Tuesday, February 13 – Wood Shaker – Select a pre-cut wood shape that you will emboss, paint and glue before adding fun, sparkle bits to “shake” inside. You will be able to hang it in a window or on a wall.

Birthday Celebrations
It’s time to party! If anyone deserves a birthday party, it's a senior citizen who has lived a rich, full life. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the celebration. It does not have to be your birth month to attend.

Boccia Ball
Boccia is a precision ball sport similar to Bocce Ball, and is played inside. You sit next to your opponent on the Boccia Court. It can be played one-on-one or in teams. The object of the game is to throw or roll leather-like balls so that they land as close as possible to the target ball.

Bunco
A fun and entertaining dice game for all to play! No skill required! Participants may bring a “sealed” snack to share and personal non-alcoholic beverage.

Card-ology
In this make and take card making class you will create one or two beautiful greeting cards each month. There will be cards designed for you—but you are welcome to add your own twist when you want to. There is nothing like receiving a handmade card that is a gift in its own right. Registration must be completed by the Thursday before each class.

Cardio Drumming
This Cardio Drumming beginner’s class is a cardiovascular based full-body workout that requires you to move and play drums along to music. Except it doesn't actually involve any drums! It will raise your heart rate, help you burn hundreds of calories, improve your coordination and ability to focus, and help strengthen many muscle groups, including your core. Advanced registration required, must contact prior to start of class for cancellations, space is limited.

Chair Yoga
Start experiencing the many benefits of yoga. This instructor led chair yoga exercise video is safe and gentle and includes low impact stretching, strengthening and breathing routines.

Chair-o-bics
Get moving in this recreational, self-guided chair exercise class! Participants are encouraged to use light hand weights to build strength. Use of weights is not required and is at your own risk.

Games, Cards & More
